DESCRIPTION:If you are planning to join the Club this year\, please attend the Annual Meeting on May 20. In order to vote at the Meeting\, you will need to submit your membership package between 12:45 and 1:05 PM at the meeting place. (Membership Package is under the Forms/Legal tab on this website.) So to avoid delays\, please have your membership package completely filled out and a check or cash for dues ready when you arrive (12:45 to 1:05 PM). If you cannot attend the meeting and intend to join\, please USPS mail your membership package to the address shown on the first page of the package. \nMembers who have submitted their membership package will first vote on the Revised Articles of Association and develop an advisory vote on the By-Laws. Then the proposed slate of Club directors will be announced and voted on. A Club event Planning document for 2023 will be presented (if not distributed via email sooner) and discussed. Other recommended business items will be handled and then\, upon adjournment\, those who wish may join in a paddle on Lake DeSoto. Note that the Club email list will be updated by May 30 to contain only those who have joined the Club for 2023. \nThe Club Board will be asking for volunteers to handle paddling event administration/coordination. It is hoped that everyone will share in the event administration of this volunteer organization by stepping forward to coordinate at least one event.\nFor river events and lakes outside HSV this involves developing the event flyer and submitting it for distribution to Club members about 7 days in advance of the event. Then the volunteer will keep a list of the participants as they indicate their event participation via email. Meanwhile\, they will assign one of the participants (usually with the most experience on the specific river) as the “On-The-Water” leader.\nFor lake events in the Village\, any member will just advise other Club members where and when they will be paddling and issue an invitation to join in the activity. This is intended to be much less formal than last year. However\, a brief safety talk of 2 to 5 minutes is still expected to remind participants of the need to wear their PFD and stay with the group\, etc.. There may be an assigned “On-The-Water” lead and even a “Sweep” for larger groups. \nFullscreen Mode

SUMMARY:First Annual Caddo River Tubing Trip
DESCRIPTION:We are sad to inform you that the July 7 HSV Paddlers Club tubing trip on the Caddo River is CANCELLED due to low water levels and extreme heat. After consulting we determined that there would be too many “stops & drags” over gravel bars at the current water level. In addition\, the extreme heat is definitely a consideration.\n\nWe hope to reschedule after rain refills the river and the temperature is under 100 degrees! We’ll try to keep you informed! Please be advised that it could be a “pop-up” event (an event that is unscheduled\, unplanned and organizes at the last minute).\n\nRegretfully\,\n\nPatty Doublin\, P.J. Skubish\nTubing Trip Coordinators\n\n  \n(Water level dependent.) \nIf you miss the meeting time at Brookshire’s parking lot for caravanning at 8:45am\, you can drive to Glenwood\, AR and meet at Lucky’s Canoe at ~9:50am. \n  \nFullscreen Mode\nConcerned about the hot weather recently? Note that the tubing event will start early and that even after the day begins to get hot\, cooling off is just a splash away. Nevertheless it is prudent to bring plenty of non-alcoholic beverages to stay hydrated. In addition things like sunblock\, bug spray\, a hat\, sunglasses\, and sturdy footwear suitable for water use are all advisable. SUMMARY:Lake DeGray - Islets Cove Water Trail
DESCRIPTION:The Islets Cove Paddle Trail on DeGray Lake is a 3 mile water trail that is both family friendly and easily accessible. Yellow signs posted along the shoreline not only indicate you are on the trail\, but also indicate interesting features of the lake. For instance\, the first yellow sign is placed among drooping black willow trees and here you can take in the interesting fact that American Indians were the first to tap into the medicinal properties of these trees that are now connected to being one of the chief ingredients in aspirin. Another sign marks the spot of where a dairy farm pond used to be before DeGray Lake was created in the early 1970s.
